WISHING FOR A GOOD START TO THE YEAR

At the dawn of a new year, every Chinese household would hold the wish that the year ahead be one filled with all the goodness that life has to offer - good luck, good health, good career prospects, academic achievement, prosperous business, a happy and harmonious family.  Therefore it is crucial to start the year right by surrounding themselves with symbols of prosperity and wellbeing.  That is why plants are very popular during this time of the year.  There are some plants that are deemed more auspicious than others.  It might be because of their names or it might be because of the colour of the flowers and fruits or how the plant looks like.  Plants that are colourful and bright are considered lucky.  And so are those that bear fruits as it symbolises that ones endeavours would come into fruition.
If you go to a nursery or florists and enquire about the Chinese name of the plant, they would most probably say that the plant is called Feng Shui Plant, Money Plant, Prosperity Plant or Lucky Plant when as a matter of fact the common name of the plant might be just Guzmania, Hydrangea or Azealea.
Anyway, there is nothing wrong in wishing for good things for ourselves and our loved ones and for a good start to a new year.  So bring on the plants as they symbolise growth, regeneration, success and prosperity.
