In Malaysia, the civil servants are required to wear clothings made from Malaysian Batik on Thursday so that they can acquire a national identity and promote the traditional fabric. The sartorial rule to wear batik on Thursday is to give Malaysian batik a boost by getting civil servants to wear it more often.
Like all Malaysian civil servants, my colleagues and I are wearing colourful batik attires this Thursday. Today I am wearing a lovely blue batik baju kebaya. For your information, every year the Teacher and Staff Club would choose a particular batik material of the same colour and all the members would buy the cloth and make garments out of them. The blue one that I am wearing was the batik for 2007 which happens to be my favourite. Since wearing blue would help to offset the deficit in water for 2010, I will make sure that I wear this outfit more often. Ahem! Don't you agree I look good in it?
