BEGINNING OF SPRING

6.48 a.m. on 4th February, 2010 marks the change in season from Winter to Spring. In Chinese this is known as Lup Chun or the beginning of Spring.  This year Lup Chun starts earlier than the lunar new year which means that the year ahead will be a 'blind year'.  According to Chinese beliefs, it is not good to get married during a blind year.  However according to Flying Star Feng Shui, the Number 8 star flies into the central palace which means that it is a double joyous year of wealth and good blessings.  And so, it is okay to get married.
There are some Taoists who welcome the God of Wealth into their homes on this day.  They would take a bath, put on clean clothing (preferably white or yellow) and set up an altar facing the auspicious direction to welcome Cai Xin (the Wealth God).
Here are the directions to face when praying to certain deities on this day:

God of Joy       :  Northwest
God of Nobility:  Southwest
God of Wealth:  Southeast

Actually, one can just go out of the house into the open and face the auspicious direction to get a dose of the auspicious Qi.  I must remember to do so when I wake up in the morning.
