Towards the end of each year, some of the Taoist holdholds would change the prayer tablet for the house deity if they find that it is old. It will be replaced with a new one. However, they do not throw the old tablet into the dustbins instead they would give it a sending away. Usually, the people would place it by some bushes. Don't I ask me why? I don't know. What I know is that is the common practice.
Sometimes, people who move houses would also send the old tablet away since they would have bought a new one for their new home. Then there are cases of those who have converted to another religion who would also leave their old prayer tablet by the roadside.
