Many Chinese would not give clocks as presents as the Chinese meaning of 'giving a clock' has the connotation of sending a person off to the world of the dead.Also if the clock is spoilt and cannot be repaired it should be thrown away as it is inauspicious to have broken things at home.
I am pictured with a clock in my house that is spoilt. Initially my mum thought that the battery had expired and that was why it wasn't running but after changing a new battery it still didn't come alive. So my mum will be throwing it away and buying a new one.
