If you follow my blog posts, you would know that I sprained my arm last week and until now I have not fully recovered. However, I am feeling much better as compared to last week. The muscles take some time to heal. As I do not want to aggravate my injured muscles, I asked two of students if they could come help to tidy my garden for me.
The boys, Azizol and Sofian, were more than willing to help their teacher. I picked the two boys up from their hostel when I left school at 5.00 p.m. I had asked permission from their warden to take them out a day earlier.
When the boys reached my house, they surveyed my little jungle and then told me not to worry. They would take care of things for me. True to their words, they started to work methodically by first placing all the flower pots to one side and then they reorganised the positions of the potted plants. Before placing a plant in a certain position, they asked me if that plant needed lots of sunlight or whether they needed to be placed in the shade. They trimmed some of the plants and also removed the weeds and dead leaves from some of the plants. They took about two hours to turn my mini jungle back into a decent looking garden.
Know something? These two boys are from one of the weakest classes in my school. Their academic results are not good and they would most probably not do well for their SPM examination. However, I have never ever doubted their capability and their intelligence. They might be weak academically but I am certain that they will be able to earn a living since they will get a Junior Electrician Certificate after two years of vocational skills training in my school.
The two boys have been with me for two years and in my opinion, they are responsible and reliable boys. During some weekends they volunteer their services to do the wiring for the welfare home in our district. For your information, they did not ask for any payment from me. I only treated them to dinner before I sent them back to the hostel.
