You can dye and egg using onion skins. See what interesting patterns you can get by wrapping the egg with onion skins and then boiling them.
I used to throw away the onion skins after I peel them but not anymore as I found that they have other uses.
- You can use them to dye eggs.
- You can also save the onion skins along with shrimp shells and vegetable scraps to be used as base for a stock. Believe me, your soup will taste better. I actually learnt about this from watching a Korean drama.
So I have told myself to start saving the onion skins from now. By the way the same applies to garlic skin as well. Both the skins add a nice brown colour and rich flavour to the stock.
