A long time ago, I was told that guests to a Malay wedding would give rice and other foodstuff to the couple to help lighten the financial burden of holding the feast. I remember when I was much younger, people would give drinking glasses, teacups and other types of crockery when attending a Malay wedding. Nowadays, many Chinese just give a red packet containing money to the Malay couple when they attend such functions. Many Malays also give money too instead of giving gifts. Me? I usually like to give a gift so that it will be a keepsake for the couple. What do I usually buy for them? Bedsheets. One can never have enough of this stuff.
