I saw this arrangement when I was looking at some almost completed houses near where I am staying. The kitchen is located next to the toilet. This is a Feng Shui taboo as a toilet next to a kitchen produces Shar Qi or Killing Energy.
To counter this, one can keep the lid of the toilet bowl down (if it is the seating type) and also keep the door of the toilet closed all the time.
