I was touched to tears when I met my three boys this afternoon. The boy on the left is Nizam and the two other boys have the same name, Hazwan. The three of them had come to see me after school was over for the day. Now you must be wondering what was it that moved me to tears on seeing the three of them? Read on to find out why ...
Nizam (left) should feel very blessed to have Hazwan and Hazwan as his friends and classmates. After the two Hazwans found out that their classmate was not able to come to school as his family was facing some financial difficulties and did not have enough money for his bus fare to come back to Manjung from Ipoh, they drove down to Ipoh to bring their friend back to STESMA. They had actually told me about Nizam's plight on Monday during their English Language class and I had tried to call him but couldn't get through. I told his class that Nizam could come back from Ipoh with me on Sunday as I go back each weekend. Even their class teacher, Miss Yogesh asked if I could help Nizam. Well, before I could bring him back, his friends beat me to it. I guess they worried that Nizam would miss sitting for the mid-year examination which started yesterday for the vocational students of my school. The boys have shown that a friend in need is a friend indeed.
For your information, Nizam's father has been paralysed for some years and his mother is the sole bread winner of the family. She used to sell books but lost her job and her main source of income. Now Nizam's mother has to peel onions for a living. I am sure what she is paid is not enough to support a family of four. Besides Hazwan, there is another 16 year old daughter.
