On Saturday, my mum asked me to drive her to the Old Kuan Yin Temple near the bridge across the Kinta River joining Ipoh Old Town and New Town as she wished to offer prayers to the Goddess Kuan Yin for her smooth and successful surgical procedure.
She told me that before she called the doctor to make an appointment on Saturday, she had prayed to Kuan Yin and the Jade Emperor for strength and protection. For your information, she made the appointment on the day itself and somehow her specialist (who actually has a lot a patients) said yes to her request given the very short notice. Maybe, it could be because Dr Wong happened to be my late father's student and my mum has been his patient for almost 10 years. The same thing happened at the hospital. She had not made a booking for the operation theatre and somehow the nurses there accomodated her and somehow she was able to book the place for the first surgery since her doctor agreed to come early. There were other patients waiting for the same procedure but it seemed that they had to wait for their doctors to come later.
See, if like my mum you earnestly believe in the divine powers of the deities, you will receive their blessings. Next week, I have to take her to the temple for Yu Wang or the Jade Emperor in Tambun for her to offer prayers. So long as she is okay, I'll take her to any temple she wants to go.
