TYPES OF GOURDS

Giant Bottle (Lagenaria siceraria)
The 'Giant Bottle' has a typical hourglass shape. Fruit are about 12 inches tall with an 8-inch diameter base.
Giant Bushel (Lagenaria siceraria)
Fruit of the 'Giant Bushel' are round and quite smooth. They may reach 20 pounds in weight.
Caveman's Club (Lagenaria siceraria)
This unique, heavily wrinkled club-shaped gourd is 15 to 18 inches long and about 6 inches in diameter.
Canteen (Lagenaria siceraria)
Shaped like a wheel, this gourd is about 12 inches in diameter and 3 inches thick.
Apple (Lagenaria siceraria)
This gourd is shaped like an apple, but is the size of a softball or larger.
Miniature Bottle (Lagenaria siceraria)
The 'Miniature Bottle' gourd is very prolific producing many 6-inch tall hourglass-shaped fruit.
Birdhouse Bottle (Lagenaria siceraria)
The 'Birdhouse Bottle' gourd is 12 to 14 inches tall, 5 to 8 inches in diameter. The size and shape can vary somewhat even on the same plant.
Penguin (Lagenaria siceraria)
Also know as Calabash, this grayish-green gourd is shaped like a fat penguin.
Gooseneck Swan (Lagenaria siceraria)
The swan gourd is shaped like a birdhouse gourd, but with a long, gently curved neck that peaks in a small bulb to resemble a swan.
Dipper Long Handled Gourd (Lagenaria siceraria)
This gourd has a long curved neck with a 5 to 6 inch bulb.
Like me, I bet you would not have realised that the Wu Lou has that many 'brothers' and 'sisters' in its family the Lagenceraria. The ones that we usually associate as a Feng Shui symbol of wealth is the bottle shaped type.
