Many Chinese people are very particular when it comes to placing items like brooms, mops and dustbins which are used to keep a place clean. As is obvious, these things that are used for cleaning would also gather or contain a lot of dirt, rubbish which translates into negative chi.
In that sense, the placement of the waste paper basket or dustbin might affect the luck and health of the household.
Some Feng Shui enthusiasts say that if you have these vessels for keeping rubbish 'on show' or in a conspicuous place, then you are apparently inviting bad instead of good. Remember not to place a waste paper basket near your cash register if you have a shop as it will be bad for business. A few Feng Shui masters say that this is akin to 'throwing your income' into the waste paper basket. Please, if you need to use a waste paper basket, place it in a place that is not conspicuous. Hide it. I am sure you will notice the difference. If you can't fit it into a cupboard, then try putting it behind something. Just make sure its not visible to anyone.
