HERBAL POULTICE

I had been looking for a herbal treatment for knee pains for quite a number of days now. No! It is not me with the knee pains but rather a visitor to this blog who had written in to ask if I knew of any cures.

Well, the treatment that I am going to introduce here is not actually a cure but rather something to ease the pain and to start the healing process. I am going to recommend the use of a poultice using a combination of herbs which will take away pain, reduce swelling and inflammation, as well as start the healing process in the affected area of the body. I must also add that while the poultice is a form of treatment, but it is also advisable to consult a medical doctor.
Here in Malaysia, my godmother taught me to use a combination of sireh leaves, shallots, tumeric, hibiscus flower and oil (added with lemon grass and other Chinese medicine) to make a poultice. The herbs are heated first. Then the herbal oil is added and then spread on a piece of cloth over the skin to treat the aching part of the body.

As in the case of my friend who wrote in, she can use comfrey, white oak bark, mullein, black walnut, marshmallow, queen of the meadow, wormwood, lobelia, scullcap for the poultice. These herbs would need to be mixed with mineral water, aloe vera juice or gel, or petroleum jelly before being applied.

Alternatively, An onion poultice is also an excellent every day remedy for taking away pain and swelling, particularly from injured, pulled or torn tendons. Simply chop up some onion and mix it with aloe vera juice, then apply the mixture to a clean cloth and lay that cloth on the injured area. You can also mix in white willow to help relieve pain and swelling too. To help relieve swelling and pain from arthritis, gout, and other joint related problems, try a poultice of just white willow and aloe vera juice.
