GOOD LUCK RITUAL

Visitors to temples like to go under the altars of the deities as they believed that by doing so they would be rid of their ill luck and in turn be blessed with good luck. The Chinese refer to this as 'changing ones luck'.

At the Tow Boo Keong temple, there is an entrance at the left of the main altar where the Dou Mou Goddess and other deities is enshrined. Devotees would enter this door and exit one on the right. They are to do this for three times. During the Festival of the 9-Emperor Gods, the devotees are given a blessed paper charm at the entrance (see first picture). They are to keep the charm as it is for protection from evil.
