OLYMPIC MEDALS FOR 2008

In 30 minutes time, the opening ceremony for the Olympics will start. The athletes from the different nations who have trained very hard for the last four years will be coming together to compete in the world's largest sporting arena. I am sure the people of China will put up a fantastic show.
It would be great to watch all these athletes going all out for glory. What awaits them are the medals. As the host nation is China, the design of medals this time around has taken a bit of Chinese flavour. The medals are designed using China's ancient Jade pieces and inscribed with the dragon pattern. Wah! So very, very auspicious.
For the first time jade is used for the Olympic medals. The medals are said to embody strong Chinese style and elegant art, and are a harmonious combination of Chinese culture with the Olympism, making them a vehicle to spread the Olympic Spirit and the concepts of the Beijing Games, as well as to showcase Chinese culture and arts, and the high levels of design and technology.
