POMELO LEAVES

During festivals, the Chinese in Malaysia like to give their friends and relatives pomeloes as gifts. Since the fruit is considered a neutral one, with neither yin nor yang qualities - it is safe to eat a lot of it as it does not have the cooling or heating effect.

Besides the fruit, the leaves of the pomelo plant are commonly used as a cleansing agent to ward off evil spirits. How to use it? The most common method is to bathe with water that has pomelo leaves immersed in it. Why pomelo leaves? It is because the pomelo plant (just like a pomegranate plant) is considered a sacred plant. One taboo that we have here is that pregnant and menstruating women are not to touch any part of it. If they do, then the plant will either die or will not bear fruit.
