BEARING MY OWN CROSS

I was educated in a convent school and though I am a Taoist, I was exposed to a lot of stories from the Holy Bible when the Sisters taught the non-Catholic and non-Muslim students during Moral lessons. The most poignant was the crucification of the Lord Jesus Christ. Before he reached Golgotha, the Son of God was made to carry His own cross which was made from olive wood. According to the nuns who taught me, the heavy cross He carried was symbolic of the sins of man and in actuality Jesus bore the cross for mankind.
In 1991, the gardener of the school that I was teaching asked me for help. He was about 25 years old at that time and was married to a 30 year old widow with a 12 year old daughter. They have two young children of their own at that time as well. It was the beginning of the school year and he had not enough money to buy a school uniform and shoes for his stepdaughter who was entering secondary school. He said that he did not want to borrow money from his own parents as he did not want them to worry. He told told me that as children we were the ones responsible for looking after our parents and we should try not to make them worried about us or make them unhappy. I am not relating this story to show off that I lent money to a friend in need but to say that the advice he gave me stuck until today.
I would usually not tell my parents even if I become very ill or meet with some very heartbreaking situation. I just keep it to myself and somehow or other with the help of my good friends and God's Grace I am able to tide through. My mum has done a lot in bearing me, giving birth to me and raising me. For your information, I did not tell her or my aunt about my unhappiness over my book. I went on as usual yesterday and today. I took them to the Pasar Malam last night and brought them shopping at TESCO and JUSCO this morning. (See all the lovely pictures of us posing next to the Christmas decorations at the shopping mall). Like my friend, I would want to bear my own cross. I don't want my mum's and aunt's blood pressures to hit the ceiling if they find out that I am so unhappy and worried.

PURPLE CAULIFLOWERS, ANYONE?
So far I have yet to see any purple, green or orange cauliflowers sold at the markets or supermarkets here in Malaysia. But it seems the cauliflowers grow in such colours because of traditional selective breeding and not genetic engineering. I think if we can get them here, the coloured ones would cost a tidy sum. So I will stick to the pale yellow type.
EARTH EATER

Believe it or not, the girl above eats earth. Wuqibalaqiqige from North China intends to set a new Guinness World Record by feeding on soil and nothing else for two months. I am not sure if she managed to set the new world record as the article was written in 2007 and there is not record of her achieving that feat.

VERY, VERY UNHAPPY AND UPSET

My mum took the above pictures of me this morning. I look very happy in the above pictures, don't I? If she were to take my pictures again now, you will definitely see a very unhappy me.Why? It is because of an email that I received from the editor of my book called "Red Occasions". I wrote the book over a period of 4 years from 2003 to 2006. A representative from Pelanduk Publishing House contacted me in March 2006 and said they were interested in Publishing my book and since then I have been been put in contact with one of their editors, Mr Woo, who has worked with me, making additions and changes to complete the book until December 2008. In his last email to me, he said that the book would be sent to Perpustakaan Negara to get the copyright approved and then I had to wait until it got the green light. I kept waiting and waiting from January this year until now and finally emailed Mr Woo to ask about the publication date. To my surprise, he said that he no longer was with Pelanduk and told me to refer my queries to Ms Chong, the lady who contacted me initially.
Aiyoh! My heart sank when I read the email. I have this bad feeling that something bad happened to my book and maybe it would never get published. All my years of hard work not to mention the embarassment and shame I felt whenever my friends or relatives asked me about it. I was the one who told them to get ready to buy the book but now I am not even sure whether it will ever see the light of day. Boo Hoo Hoo!
A VERY PATIENT MAN

Believe it or not, all the buildings and structures above were built with toothpicks. Yup! Millions and millions of toothpicks, the ones that we use to pick our teeth with.
The man responsible for the masterpieces is Stan Munro (36). He will use lots and lots of toothpicks and glue to complete one project.
Stan can spend until 6 months to create a building and each of his creations is built to 1:164 scale. He works at the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, New York (USA).
AUSPICIOUS SYMBOL FOR GATE

The gate shown above has the 喜'double happiness' symbol in the middle. Usually house owners would have auspicious symbols like chinese coins or the double happiness on them in the hope that the members of the household would enjoy wealth luck and have a double dose of happiness.

FENG SHUI FINANCIAL DRAINS

Ways your house might be losing money
by Kathryn Weber
No matter what your circumstances, financial problems can surface from time to time. What creates real difficulty, though, is when those problems arise and they aren't addressed. This is when a small financial problem can become a large and serious one. Use the tips below to make sure that your finances aren't being drained by your house. And, if they are, these tips will tell you how to correct situation
1. Make corrections as soon as possible
A key to correcting financial drains is to correct the problem as soon as you're aware of it. That means instead of listening night after night to the toilet that runs or the sink that drip, drip, drips, you handle the problems as they occur. Interestingly, you may find that when you have a plumbing problem, you'll often have a financial setback!
2. Water in the bedroom.
Some bedrooms have a sink or partial bathroom in them. If you can see or hear water (maybe from a fountain or swimming pool?) from your bed, then you will lose serious money. If you're hearing a swimming pool or outdoor fountain running while you sleep, this could cause severe financial setbacks. Double that if you're hearing a toilet running at night. If you can see or hear water while you are in bed, do what you can to stop the water sound or block the view of water. With every drip of the faucet at night, you just might be losing $1 a drop!
3. Roof leaks cause major money problems.
One of the more serious financial drains in feng shui is roof leaks or water overhead. If you have a water heater in the attic or a leaking roof, you will be hit by an unexpected financial burden. This can be in the form of medical crisis, losing a job, etc. So, you see, it's not just an extra $100 on your electric bill. Sometimes, the leak comes after hearing some difficult financial news. Make sure that you keep your roof in top shape and that you monitor any kind of leak in the ceiling of your home and address it as soon as possible.
4. Fireplace in your wealth position.
If you have a fireplace in the southeast corner (wealth sector) of your home, you will literally burn through the money and accumulating cash will be difficult to do. If the fireplace is in the north corner (career/opportunities sector), you'll find that your career doesn't pay you nearly what it should. In both cases, it's important to "douse" the fire energy of the fireplace by placing a picture of a waterfall over the fireplace. Better still is placing actual water over the fireplace, in the form of a fountain, or even vases of flowers filled with water.
As an experiment, place a large glass vase of flowers over your fireplace for two weeks. Keep the water clear and clean and replace the flowers if they get faded. Notice whether you have any financial change.... Maybe you find $50 in a coat pocket, or you receive a refund check in the mail, or maybe you get a raise at work!

SEXIEST ASIAN VEGETARIAN
Here is the poster advertisement for PETA which is posed by Taiwanese celebrity Da S with the slogan "Love Her, Love Vegetarianism". The lovely lady has been a vegetarian for a few years already. I must say that besides showing ones love for animals, people who eats lots of veges sans meat sure look healthier and better. Da S who is 33 years old looks much younger, not to mention more beautiful and sexier than when I first watched her in "Meteor Garden 1" in which she acted alongside her first and second boyfriends, Blue Lan and Vic Chou. I read that Blue Lan even became a vegetarian when he was in a relationship with her. I wonder whether he has reverted to being an 'anytarian' after she dumped him for Vic Chou?

After being a vegetarian for many years, Taiwanese actress DaS uncovers her new PETA advert in Bei Jing. In The advert, DaS and a bird are cuddling, with "Love Her, Love Vegetarianism" as a slogan. DaS had been voted as PETA 2009' sexiest Asian vegetarian, but in the event, DaS didn't forget to tease her sister "If Xiao S was to become vegetarian, this award would be hers". DaS stated : "Animals are our family, our siblings, we are from the same species, equal, I love all animals, so I won't eat them."
Watch a video of her urging people to go vegetarian.
KOREAN CELEBRITIES AND SWINE FLU

I have been reading news articles about a few Korean celebrities being confirmed of H1N1 flu virus lately. The actor who gained fame after acting as one of the members of F4 in the Korean hit drama, "Boys Over Flowers" has been given Tamilflu (the antidote for this virus) and is resting.
With Kim Joon as the latest victim in a line of Korean entertainers who have contacted the virus, it is a wonder why so many korean artistes are getting hit with the swine flu? Haven't they taken heed of the precautions given by the medical authorities to wear the face mask, wash their hands regularly and to mind their health. His co-star in "Boys Over Flowers", Kim Hyun-Jung who was also a victim earlier in the year has sung a song about the prevention of Swine Flu.
FOR SHELTER AND PROTECTION

According to a feng shui site that I visited, thye beautiful frangipani flower symbolizes shelter. It is supposed to protect one from any harm and attract good things without any obstacles. The advice is to plant it in the garden to protect the home from any harm and danger.
HARI RAYA HAJI

Today is Hari Raya Haji and there will Muslims who will go on their pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Mecca. Going on this pilgrimage is one of the tenets of Islam and if possible a Muslim should go at least once in his or her lifetime.
Here in Manjung my friends will be going to the suraus as there will be the Korban or Sacrifice ceremony where people will contribute money to sacrifice a cow. The meat will be later distributed to people there.

BORDERS
I spent some time to look for a border to frame the cover for a working paper that I have prepared for the school library. I like to put a border to the cover of my work as I feel that they make it look more interesting and interesting. I go for the ones with auspicious symbolisms most of the time as they give out good vibes to the person who will be looking at them.
Anyway I found a suitable page border for my work and also saved a few more that I would be using later on. I am sharing them here with you as I believe that they might come in handy if you need to decorate your work or assignments.
