SYMBOLIC REPRESENTATIONS

The slide heralding the launch of the new blog with a hatched baby chick.
The new blog for the Vocational College with a hatched Garfield.

Before the launching ceremony of KVSM Dot Com for the new vocational college that our school would become in 2012, a few of the teachers were asking me why I had put up an image of a chick that was already hatched.  They said that the college would only come into being on January 1, 2012.  Their suggestion was that I put the image of an egg instead.
Let me give my explanation.  As someone who is very into the subject of Feng Shui, the matter of symbolism plays a big part in my every day life.  Therefore I specially chose the image of a chick being hatched to represent the present vocational school that already was re-established in 2010.  We are not starting from ZERO.  The chick already has been hatched. It was still a chick as the vocational school was only into its second year. What the ministry of education has in mind is to transform a vocational school into a college.  Therefore, I chose the image of a hatched chick being transformed into that of a hatched Garfield to symbolise the change.  Why Garfield?  It is because he looks like a Tiger Cub.In Feng Shui the tiger is considered a celestial animal representing courage, dignity and ferocity.  To the Chinese it is a symbol of protection. Now do you see the reason for the choice of symbols?
