Every Chinese New Year, I would most definitely see boxes of Red Dates or Jujubes on the shelves at supermarkets. As it is the dates are red which is already auspicious but why dates. It seems that this particular red date or Jujube 枣; zǎo which has been candied represents wealth, prosperity and fertility. So I will make sure to buy some to give to my friends and relatives.
